How the compression works
JPEG files are re-encoded with MozJPEG, which produces smaller files than standard encoders at the same visual quality. PNG files are either optimised losslessly with OxiPNG or reduced to a smaller colour palette. WEBP and AVIF are re-encoded with libwebp and libavif. Metadata is removed by default, which alone can save tens of kilobytes per photo.

How much can I save?
Photos straight from a camera or phone often shrink by 40–80%. Already optimised images may only shrink a little — we show the exact result for every file.
What if the compressed file is larger?
That can happen with images that were already heavily compressed. The result card shows it clearly so you can keep the original.
Are my images uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
