Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC photos from iPhones cannot be opened by most Windows apps, Android devices and websites. JPG is supported by virtually every device, app and website, and keeps photos compact.

What changes when you convert HEIC to JPG

JPG files are usually larger than HEIC files, because JPG stores the image with less (or no) lossy compression.
JPG uses lossy compression. At the default quality (85) the difference is invisible for most images; raise it for maximum fidelity or lower it for smaller files.
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your HEIC image are filled with a background colour (white by default, adjustable in Settings).
If your HEIC is animated, only the first frame is converted to JPG.
JPG images can be at most 65,535 pixels wide or high; larger images are scaled down automatically.

Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is traded for size. At quality 85–95 the difference is not visible for typical images. You can raise the quality in Settings.
